Born in 1949 in Sydney, Tim studied at the National Art School. He lives in Bowral in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Tim was awarded Order of Australia (AM) for services to art in 1994; and a Doctor of Arts (Hons.) from Charles Sturt University, New South Wales. 200, and Trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales 1989-98 (for three terms).
Tim has won various awards, including the Packing Room Prize 2014, Archibald Prize 2012. Wynne Prize finalist 2014; the Jadeberg (snow squall off the ice shelf) 2102-14. Sulman Prize 1968 and 1984. And in addition the BHP Commission for International Iron and Steel Institute; R.M. Ansett Hamilton Art Award, and Sakura Colour Products Prize.
Tim has exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally, he has exhibited at Fischer Fine Art, London; Christopher Leonard Gallery, New York; Expo 74, Spokane, Washington; Louis Newman Gallery, Los Angeles; Chicago International Art Exposition; Hong Kong Arts Centre; Singapore Art Museum; Galerie Konoha, Japan.
Tim’s work has been collected by all major Australian art museums and is included in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, National Gallery of Australia; Art Gallery of New South Wales; National Gallery of Victoria; Art Gallery of Western Australia; Museum and Art Galleries of the Northern Territory, Darwin; Queensland Art Gallery; Australian National University.
